FDA was asked to plan a shopping center on an assemblage put together by our client at the corner of Pershing Road and State Street in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood. The site, bounded on the west by an existing railroad embankment, is in the middle of urban renewal efforts in this historic and rapidly improving neighborhood.
The site plan shows a configuration that backs the super market against the railroad embankment (concealing loading and service areas) and creates both outlots for additional retail tenants and smaller retail spaces that flank the super market. FDA paid special attention to integrating the vehicular access, service access and parking. Conceptual elevation studies show an urban sense of materials, massing and covered walkways.
