FDA was commissioned to study how the USX site on the south side of Chicago (along Lake Michigan) could be planned as a residential planned development. Our client worked with USX to showcase the potential for the site after completion of site clean up and regrading efforts. FDA extended the existing city street grid eastward into the site and a lakefront park along Lake Michigan. The study envisions a recreational boating marina and a mix of single-family residences, townhouses and apartment buildings.
The study also included the development of an adjacent site for a shopping center to bring much needed retail use to the neighborhood and a reconfiguration of Lake Shore Drive intended to improve traffic flow and create better access to both the residential and retail components.
