This project involves the complete gut rehabilitation and expansion of a house, transforming it into an energy-efficient, modern living space. The two-story rear addition was strategically designed to expand upon the living spaces that previously felt small and to accommodate a principal bedroom suite on the second floor. The addition enhances the overall functionality of the home while maintaining good “flow” that feels organic and integrated.  

As part of the ComEd All-Electric Home Rebate Program, the entire home was converted to electric systems, eliminating the need for natural gas infrastructure.  The project incorporates high-efficiency electric appliances, advanced heat pump technology for heating and cooling, and energy-efficient lighting throughout. These upgrades help to lower the home’s energy consumption, reduce utility bills, and minimize its carbon footprint.

The project balances the best of both worlds—modern living spaces that meet the owner’s needs and the preservation of certain original elements that gives the home its distinctive character. A key feature of the renovation is the preservation of the original staircase, which serves as a focal point at the homes entrance and a connection to the home's history.
